Summary

The Hauppauge Industrial Association (HIA), which has a membership of approximately 1,000 companies throughout Long Island, is a grass-roots, pro-active business organization. With an ever growing membership community, a stable robust website application is critical.

Some companies frown on “fixing” another company’s work but when HIA needed a company with expert technical knowledge and a true understanding of their business model, there was no one better to turn to than NST.

The task – fixing many critical reporting issues along with developing new functionality to enhance membership benefits. NST, was called upon to help revamp of their administrative system, design and build front-end interface for member features and develop other custom solutions.

The Challenge

Our largest obstacle was understand the systems existing logic.

Our client had many requirements for analyzing membership trends and their reporting engine was lacking.

Reporting was another pain point for our client. The data was inconsistent due to the software developed to manage members and events.

Custom code used to modify their event management plugin also presented issues specifically with the ability to stay current with the software releases.

New functionality to add membership features for collaborating with other members and speakers was requested.

The Solution

Deep dive analysis – we spent a number of weeks to learn the system and understand the links between the membership system and event management modules.

Through multiple knowledge sharing sessions, we developed a reporting module that provided our client with the flexibility and customization they needed. Enhanced filter and selectable fields were provided to accomplish this featured but most of all we created the relationship between the data elements. This one factor allowed HIA to report confidently on membership data on multiple levels.

From a development standpoint we created two new membership features which provide the community to interact with other members and further enhance the overall member experience.
The speakers portal allowed members who wanted to share their expertise with others, a platform to do so. As part of this feature they could promote these offering and collaborate with interested members.

The Collaborate feature tied member to member and speakers communication into one. This member only feature was designed to work on an event basis but also extended beyond to allow members find other members to form business connections.
